First Time In A Year

I took my Kayak out today, first time since last April. And let me tell you, it was great to be out on the water again.

I launched from North Shore Park and headed towards the St Petersburg Pier. There was a westward wind, about 20 knots and steady. The chop was high , about 12 inches. Some avoid these conditions, I love them!
There are few things more challenging than a high chop while navigating a 15 foot kayak – good times.

I made my way around the Pier towards the USF campus, then a huge cruise liner came in, I thought I was going to fumble in the wake, but my training kicked in, and all was well – close one!

After going about 4 miles, I headed back towards the Pier for some lunch – a bottle water and a hot pretzel – yum.
The chop in the Vinoy Basin was smooth, refreshing after fighting to get there. I circled the basin a few times then headed back to the beach at North Shore.

Sea Canoeing is 80% mental, and 20% physical.”
